If you notice art popping up all over New Orleans this fall and winter, it’s no mistake. October 23 marked the return of Prospect, the contemporary art triennial back for its fifth installment. Prospect.5: Yesterday We Said Tomorrow, explores how history informs the present in a city over 300 years old. Here’s everything you need to know about Prospect.5.
When is Prospect.5?
Prospect.5 opened on October 23, 2021 and ends on January 23, 2022.
Where can I view the exhibits?
Prospect.5 is comprised of a series of exhibits and installations all over New Orleans. The New Orleans African American Museum serves as the headquarters for all things Prospect. Participating museums and venues include the Amistad Research Center, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, the Historic New Orleans Collection, and Xavier University of Louisiana Art Gallery. Prospect.5 also has a variety of satellite locations, with seven projects selected from individuals and groups in a non-museum setting. Browse the locations here.
What can I expect to see?
Prospect.5 features contemporary art in a variety of disciplines. Expect to see paintings, photography, sculptures, film, and mixed media at the exhibits. Each piece of art is an interpretation of this year’s theme, in which the past informs the present. See here for a full list of participating artists.
